Lunch at The Briny, Portsmouth
6 oysters
Kentucky fried trout on a bed of yoghurt, shredded lettuce and cabbage
Oysters are prepped all ready for you to easily eat them.. served on a dish of crushed ice..the size of them is mind boggling! The condiments of red wine vinegar with shallots compliment further. Oysters are always a must for me here and despite being somewhat picky over my food, I always find something different that appeals to my taste buds and then doesn't disappoint on arrival to my tummy!
Followed by the Kentucky trout
The yoghurt complemented the trout perfectly with the addition of spring onions, shredded lettuce, cabbage and cucumber.
Don't forget to try the chips…whole different level of chips!!
This is my go to restaurant in Portsmouth, not only is the food always guaranteed the highest level, I have yet to find a seafood restaurant that compares to this one.
The view is stunning, nothing but blue skies and a section of the promenade with rockery borders. I am more than happy to sit here on my own in this stunning environment, soaking up the great food and tranquility. The food is not imminent but that is because everything is freshly prepared on site and is definitely worth the wait.
Inside is a cool relief from the sunshine and the decor is minimal, fresh and in keeping with a seafood restaurant vibe. I loved the edition of reading material, also all relevant to eateries.
This restaurant is a family run business which comes across when you see the staff interacting with each other.
Also as mentioned previously, I am a staple at this restaurant, and some of the staff have noticed this and have made me feel very welcomed back. It's a nice feeling to know you are welcome somewhere on your own and not feel awkward.
They also do this quirky unique twist on ‘’giving back to the community ‘’ by offering “invisible fries which are 100% donated to st Margaret's church food bank’
Honestly, is there anything the briny hasn't thought of?
Well there's yet another angle they have done very well.. and that is to compliment and elevate the environment further with jazz every Sunday out on the private promenade 12-4pm.
Everyone that works here smiles even when nobody's looking.. so the undertone of happiness comes across in the delivery of the food and the food itself.
Coming from a musical background and having my own playlist company I'm always very intrigued as to how the other elements compliment a venue. Volume level was perfect, enough to hear it but not a o interfere with conversation. Selection of music was very tasteful, Amy winehouse -esque.
One member of staff, a lady called Emma, stood out particularly to me during my meal, her customer attention was next to none, and her clear priority was to make sure everyone felt important and valued.
See you in a week or so Briny!
